President Nicos Anastasiades on Thursday pointed out that a solution to the Cyprus problem could create an exemplary model for peaceful coexistence between Christians and Muslims on the island and lead to stability in the region. President Anastasiades paid a visit to Athens for the 2nd EU-Arab World Summit. He was received by President of the Hellenic Republic, Prokopis Pavlopoulos and had a meeting with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

8. Cyprus to set up scheme to alleviate losses from the 2013 deposits haircut

Cyprus will set up a scheme aiming to alleviate the losses suffered by uninsured depositors (over €100,000) whose deposits have been converted to capital as part of the bailout of the banking sector during the 2013 financial meltdown, Minister of Finance Harris Georgiades announced on Thursday.

9. Trade deficit up in the first eight months of 2017

Trade deficit was up by €136.2 million to €2.89 billion compared to €2.75 billion in the first eight months of 2017 on a yearly basis, data released on Thursday by the Cyprus Statistical Service show.

10. Motor vehicle registrations increase significantly in first ten months

In January-October 2017 the total registrations of motor vehicles increased by 31.2% to 36.669, from 27.946 in the corresponding period of 2016, the Statistical Service of Cyprus reported on Thursday.CNA
