1. Cyprus President to attend EU-Arab Summit in Athens

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades departs Thursday for Athens to attend the EU-Arab Summit, taking place on November 9 and 10, in the Greek capital.

2. Foreign Ministry condemns attempted missile strike on Riyadh

The Foreign Ministry on Wednesday condemned the attempted missile strike on Riyadh, and underlined the importance Cyprus attaches to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Saudi Arabia.

3. Juncker calls on Turkey to re-become European, Commission funds proposal in December

President of the European Commission Jean Claude Juncker has called on Turkey to "re-become European", repeating his earlier comments that "Turkey for the time being is stepping away from the European Union", and that "some of the Turkish authorities are trying to blame the European Union for having broken the enlargement or accession promise". Furthermore, following the leaders` debate on Turkey during the October European Council, the College of Commissioners discussed the issue of pre- accession funds, but a final decision should be expected in December.

4. Access to religious sites should not be used for political ends, FM stresses

Cyprus` Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides has spoken against using the right of access to places of worship for political ends, noting that it is really not conducive to dialogue and it entrenches divisions.

5. Cyprus to participate in the EU’s permanent structured cooperation (PESCO) mechanism

The Cabinet approved on Wednesday a proposal for Cyprus’ participation in the permanent structured cooperation (PESCO) mechanism, an EU tool aiming to increase defence cooperation among member states.

6. Cyprus initiates EU-Commonwealth agriculture discussion in London

A roundtable discussion for the enhancement of the cooperation between the EU and the Commonwealth on agriculture, climate change, the blue economy and trade was organised in London on Tuesday by the Cyprus High Commission in the UK. The discussion was held in association with the Royal Commonwealth Society and it featured as the main speaker the Cypriot Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Nicos Kouyialis.

7. Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism addresses Cyprus-UK business event in London

The Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism Yiorgos Lakkotrypis presented the benefits of Cyprus as an investment destination during a business event organised in London on Tuesday evening to coincide with his presence in the city for this year’s World Travel Market.

8. Cyprus must benefit from digital revolution to remain competitive, Minster says

Digital revolution will deeply affect the lives of citizens and companies, Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Marios Demetriades said on Wednesday, noting at the same time that Cyprus must make the most of these changes, in order to remain competitive.

9. Cyprus and Israel sign memorandum to reduce roaming charges

Cyprus and Israel signed on Wednesday a memorandum of understanding, aiming to reduce roaming charges in their respective countries.

10. Building permits stood at 410 in August 2017

The number of building permits authorized by the municipal authorities and the district administration offices during August 2017 stood at 410, according to the Statistical Service.CNA
