1. Anastasiades-Macron meeting, a milestone in bilateral relations, Spokesman says

Government Spokesman Nikos Christodoulides has said that Monday’s meeting between the Presidents of Cyprus and France in Paris constitutes a milestone in their bilateral relations, noting that their discussions focused on three pillars, bilateral ties, Cyprus issue and EU – Turkey relations, as well as the future of Europe.

Apart from their common interests, Cyprus, Greece and Israel defend the interests of Europe and those of the international community, Defence Minister Christoforos Fokaides said on Tuesday.

3. Cyprus donates 265,000 EUR to the CMP

The Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) has expressed its `sincere thanks` to the Republic of Cyprus for its donation of EUR 265,000 made on Tuesday. A CMP press release says that in addition to the yearly contribution of EUR 125,000, it includes EUR 140,000 in funding for archive research.

Cyprus is running for re-election to the Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), for the period 2018 – 2019.

5. EBRD upgrades its forecast for the growth of the Cypriot economy for 2017 and 2018

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has upgraded its growth forecast for 2017 and 2018, by 1% and 0.3% respectively, for the Cypriot economy, with concerns however regarding the very high levels of indebtedness in the economy and the large legacy of NPLs.

6. HSBC veteran, Youssef Nasr, to be proposed as Hellenic Bank`s Chairman

The Hellenic Bank has announced that the Board of Directors appointed Youssef Nasr, an HSBC veteran, member of the bank’s Board, as a stepping stone for the bank’s leadership.

7. Loan restructurings decline to a year low

Loan restructurings in the Cypriot banking sector declined to their lowest level this year, as the banks enter into the more difficult cases of non-performing exposures (NPEs), which in July declined marginally to €22.63 billion, marking a reduction of 0.06 billion compared with the previous month.

8. HICP records annual increase in October

The Harmonized Price Index (HICP) increased by 0.4% in October 2017 compared to the same month in 2016, while compared to September 2017 the Index decreased by 0.6%, the Statistical Service of Cyprus reported on Tuesday.

9. Retail trade volume stable (0.0%) in Cyprus for August, rises by 0.7% in the euroarea for September

In September 2017 compared with August 2017, the seasonally adjusted volume of retail trade rose by 0.7% in the euro area (EA19) and by 0.3% in the EU28, according to estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In August, the retail trade volume decreased by 0.1% in the euro area, while it rose by 0.5% in the EU28. In September 2017 compared with September 2016, the calendar adjusted retail sales index increased by 3.7% in the euro area and by 3.5% in the EU28.CNA
