1. Our aim is to further safeguard and boost the economy, President says

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades said on Friday that the aim of his government is to safeguard and boost the economy even more, so that the country`s sustainable growth will continue at a steady pace.  He also noted that the intensive way in which the constructive sector in Cyprus has been operating during the last period proves that the government focused on taking decisions and measures so that the country will be able to exit recession and become an attractive destination for foreign investors.
 
2. Anastasiades and Hariri to hold talks in Nicosia on Saturday

The Cyprus problem, Cyprus - Lebanon bilateral relations, issues of military cooperation, EU-Lebanon relations and regional developments will be the focus of the talks which the President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades will have on October 28, in Nicosia, with the Prime Minister of Lebanon Saad Hariri.

3. Cyprus does not recognize the unilaterally declared independence of Catalonia, Foreign Ministry says

Cyprus does not recognize the unilaterally declared independence (UDI) of Catalonia, a press release issued by the Foreign Ministry said on Friday. Meanwhile, President of the Republic, Nicos Anastasiades asked if developments in Spain can affect the Cyprus problem, he said “I don’t see how it could be possible to affect it, particularly after the reactions, not just from Europe, but from the whole world”.
 
4. Bilateral ties, EU - Turkey relations and enclaved, the focus of Kasoulides - Alfano meeting

Bilateral ties, EU - Turkey relations as well as the humanitarian issue of the enclaved, were discussed during a meeting the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ioannis Kasoulides, held on Thursday in Rome with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, Angelino Alfano. Kasoulides also paid a working visit to the Holy See.

5. Continuation of UNFICYP`s presence under this mandate is essential, Cypriot representative says

Τhe continuation of the 15 UN peacekeeping missions across the globe plays a vital role and should not fall hostage to motives of expediency or money-saving, Representative of Cyprus to the Fourth Commission of the United Nations General Assembly, Michalis Mavros, stressed, speaking on behalf of the Cypriot Government to the general debate of the 4th Commission for Comprehensive Review of the whole question of peacekeeping operations in all their aspects.

6. Minister of Defence meets with outgoing Ambassador of Egypt

Minister of Defence Christoforos Fokaides held a meeting on Friday with outgoing Ambassador of Egypt in Nicosia, Hussein Abdelkarim Tantawy Mubarak. According to a press release by the Ministry, during their meeting, they discussed issues of mutual interest as well as bilateral relations. On Friday afternoon, Fokaides flew to Thessaloniki to represent the Republic of Cyprus at Saturday’s military parade to mark the anniversary of Greece’s “no” to the Axis forces.

7. Second Trilateral Meeting of Cyprus, Greece and Israel House Presidents takes place November 2 in Nicosia

The 2nd Trilateral Meeting of the Presidents of the Parliaments of Cyprus, Greece and Israel will be hosted by the House of Representatives, on November 2, in Nicosia.

8. Household income per capita increases by 0.7% in the second quarter of 2017 in the Eurozone

In the euro area, in real terms, household income per capita increased by 0.7% in the second quarter of 2017, after an increase of 0.1% in the previous quarter. Household real consumption per capita increased by 0.6% in the second quarter of 2017, after an increase of 0.2% in the first quarter of 2017.

9. Sales of petroleum products record increase

Total sales of petroleum products in September 2017 recorded an increase of 3,4% compared to the previous month, according to figures by the Cyprus Statistical Service. A rise was recorded in the sales of Kerosene, Gasoil, Asphalt, Light and Heavy Fuel Oil and Gasoil Low Sulphur.CNA
