1. Nicosia does not recognize UDI for Catalonia signed on Tuesday

The Government of the Republic of Cyprus underlines that it does not recognize the unilateral declaration of independence for Catalonia signed on 10 October, by the President of the regional government of Catalonia in violation of the Spanish Constitution.

2. Spokesman says UNSG`s report notes need to continue efforts for a Cyprus solution

Government Spokesman Nicos Christodoulides has issued a written statement in which he notes that in the UN report for Cyprus, the UN Secretary General sends a message for the need to continue the efforts to reach a solution of the Cyprus problem. Meanwhile, asked about the report, Spokesman for the UN Secretary General, Stephane Dujarric, said playing a blame game served no purpose.

3. Stella Kyriakides from Cyprus elected PACE President

Stella Kyriakides from Cyprus was elected President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). She will be the 30th President of PACE since 1949, the first Cypriot, and the third woman to take up the post. Stella Kyriakides pledged on Tuesday to “work tirelessly and openly against corruption”. President Nicos Anastasiades congratulated Kyriakides for her election. President of the House of Representatives Demetris Syllouris congratulated Kyriakides, noting that her election was “an honour for the House of Representatives, as well as the Republic of Cyprus in general.”

4. Air pollution discussed during 2nd day of "Maritime Cyprus 2017" Conference

Air pollution from international shipping and smart shipping were on the agenda of the second day of the "Maritime Cyprus 2017" Conference, one of the most successful shipping conferences worldwide, attended by hundreds of participants from all around the globe, a press release of the Department of Merchant Shipping, said on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Young Executives Session – which has become an integral part of “Maritime Cyprus” Conference - took place on Tuesday afternoon in Limassol.

5. Commissioner: EU will not sign aviation agreement with Turkey until Cyprus concerns are addressed

The EU takes into account the Cypriot positions and will not proceed to an agreement with Turkey on the issue of aviation if Cyprus concerns are not addressed, EU Transport Commissioner Violetta Bulc assured, speaking at the joint session of the House Foreign Affairs and Transport Committees. Furthermore, Bulc and Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization Kitack Lim were informed on Tuesday about the ‘Adopt a ship’ programme, which is implemented in Cypriot schools since 2006.

6. President expresses joy for happy ending in Marie-Eleni`s case

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades has expressed his joy for the happy ending of the case involving the abduction of four year old Marie-Eleni and has congratulated everyone who has contributed to it, wishing a similar ending to all other such cases.

7. IMF revises upward its growth forecast for Cyprus economy

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) revised upward its growth forecast for Cyprus’ economy compared to last April`s forecasts, in its World Economic Outlook (WEO) report released on Tuesday.

8. Limassol top destination for visitors, DP World Limassol head says

Limassol consistently ranks as a top destination for visitors, and cruise lines see DP World Limassol as an attractive call on their itineraries, Charles Meaby, General Manager of DP World Limassol, has said.

9. GDP, trade deficit, inflation, and motor vehicles registration statistics released

Cyprus` GDP growth for 2016 has been revised to 3% compared to previous estimates of 2.8%, revised data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service show on Tuesday. Furthermore, the trade deficit was slightly up, by €61 million in the first eight months of this year. Meanwhile, an upward inflation trend which made its first appearance last December, continued in September, with the Harmonised Consumer Price Index recording an increase of 0.1%. The Statistical Service also announced that the total motor vehicles registration for the period of January-September 2017 spiked 29.4% reaching 32,833 compared with 25,375 in the respective period of 2016.

10. Athienou village awarded URBACT prize for projects in volunteerism

Athienou village, in Larnaka District, has been awarded the European City of "URBACT Good Practice" for the work done in the field of volunteering. A press release issued by the Municipality on Tuesday says that the distinction was given following a successful call for proposals and a strong selection process. Mayor of Athienou Kyriakos Kareklas attended the award ceremony held in Tallinn, Estonia.CNA
