1. UNSG`s report on Cyprus circulated at United Nations

United Nations Secretary General`s report on Cyprus was circulated at the UN as an official document (PDF). Antonio Guterres` report is about his good offices mission in Cyprus. The report is identical to an advanced copy that was handed to the permanent members of the Security Council on September 28 and which was published by Cyprus News Agency. It is not yet known whether there will be any kind of reaction by the Security Council, ie a statement by its President.

2. EU Commissioner calls on Turkey to respect Cyprus’ territorial sea and its rights on its EEZ

EU Commissioner for Transport Violeta Bulc has called on Turkey to respect Cyprus’ sovereign territorial sea and its sovereign rights over its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). She also stressed that Turkey, an EU candidate country, should treat all EU member-states equally and indiscriminately. In an interview with CNA, Bulc praised Cyprus’ experience in shipping “as a valuable tool for the Commission both in the implementation and the modernization of the existing legislative framework as well as on the formulation of new policy initiatives.”

3. Nicosia seeks concrete action from EU to overturn unilateral decision by the illegal regime about aid to the enclaved

Government Spokesman Nicos Christodoulides told the press on Monday that the Cyprus government aims at concrete actions to be discussed during the European Council on Thursday, which will overturn a recent unilateral decision taken by the illegal Turkish Cypriot regime in occupied Cyprus as regards the enclaved. Meanwhile, UNFICYP said on Tuesday that they will deliver only medical supplies on Wednesday to the enclaved living in the Karpas peninsula, as they did last week.

4. We are concerned by Turkey`s plan B, Morphou Mayor says

The Mayor of the Turkish occupied town of Morphou Victoras Hadjiavraam has said that refugees are worried and very scared about Turkey`s plan B` with regard to the Turkish occupied part of Cyprus. The Mayor was speaking to the media after a meeting which the Morphou Municipal Council and a delegation of members of the European Parliament who attended the Morphou anti-occupation rally had on Monday with Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades.

5. EU Commissioner calls for a new vision for maritime and shipping

European Commissioner for Transport Violeta Bulc has called on shipping stakeholders to dare to dream and create a vision for tomorrow, for maritime and for shipping, during the inauguration ceremony of the exhibition “VOYAGE-Greek Shipbuilding and Seafaring from antiquity to modern times”.

Specialized panel discussions on the future of tanker owners and ship owners took place on Monday during the “Maritime Cyprus 2017” Conference at the “Evagoras Lanitis Centre” in the coastal town of Limassol.

7. Marie-Eleni in good health, waiting for her mother to pick her up, lawyer tells CNA

Marie-Eleni, the 4-year-old who was abducted by her father last April, in Nicosia, is in the hands of the Norwegian authorities in good health. Laris Vrachimis, the lawyer who represents the mother of the abducted child, told CNA today that the news about the arrest of Torkel Grimsrund came early on Monday afternoon.

8. NGO highlights importance of mediation in child abduction cases

‘’Hope For Children’’ CRC Policy Center, an NGO, highlights the importance of mediation in cases involving the abduction of children which highly contributes to the safe return of the child. In a press release issued here today, the NGO "expresses the deepest feelings of joy on the occasion of the upcoming return of little Marie-Eleni in Cyprus and her mother, after her long retention which followed her abduction by her natural father."

9. Gross output of agricultural sector increases

The gross output of the agricultural sector recorded an increase of 7,0% in 2015 compared to 2014, according to the Statistical Service of the Republic of Cyprus, which announced on Monday the publication of the report “Agricultural Statistics” for the period January-December 2015.

10. Trade deficit increases in first seven months of 2017

The trade deficit in January-July 2017 recorded an increase compared to the corresponding period of 2016, according to the Statistical Service of Cyprus, which announced on Monday the publication of the new monthly electronic publication “Intra-Extra EU Trade Statistics (Summarised Data)” for July 2017.CNA
