1. Cyprus conveys to UNSG concern over Turkey’s effort to integrate Turkish Cypriot community

In a letter to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, Cyprus’ Permanent Representative to the organisation Kornelios Korneliou has conveyed grave concern over Turkey’s efforts to integrate the Turkish Cypriot community in the occupied areas of Cyprus and the fact that Turkish Cypriots’ identity and future seem to be in serious jeopardy.

2. UNSG’s report on Cyprus handed to members of the Security Council

The UN Secretary-General’s report on his Mission of Good Offices in Cyprus has been handed to the members of the Security Council, UNSG spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric has said, while answering a question regarding the efforts made by the puppet regime in the Turkish occupied areas of Cyprus to be recognized internationally, he said that that’s not for the Secretary-General to decide upon.

3. President expresses full support to Rajoy and his government, condemns Las Vegas attack

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades had a long telephone conversation on Thursday afternoon with Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy during which he expressed Cyprus` full support and solidarity with the Premier of Spain and his government in their efforts for a united Spain and against the secessionist efforts of Catalonia. Meanwhile, in a letter of condolences to his US counterpart Donald Trump, he condemned the Las Vegas attack, expressing solidarity with the American people.

4. Cyprus Foreign Minister Kasoulides to hold contacts in Kuwait and Jordan

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ioannis Kasoulides, will pay an official visit to the State of Kuwait on the 8th and 9th of October 2017, upon the invitation of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah al-Khaled al-Hamad al-Sabah, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Republic of Cyprus and the State of Kuwait.

5. Fourth Southern EU Countries Summit to take place in December

The 4th Southern EU Countries Summit that was set to take place in Nicosia on October 10, with the participation of the Heads of State and Government of Cyprus, France, Portugal, Greece, Malta, Spain and Italy has been postponed. CNA has learned that the Summit will take place at the beginning of December, prior to the European Council meeting scheduled to take place on December 14-15.

6. Infants and elderly mostly affected by actions against the enclaved, solutions are sought Presidential Commissioner says

Fifteen infants are among the enclaved affected by the decision of the illegal Turkish Cypriot regime in Cyprus` occupied areas to impose as of 1st October 2017 a tax on humanitarian aid sent to the enclaved living in the northern Turkish occupied part of the island, as their parents will not receive any milk or baby diapers which were among the goods sent to the enclaved. Moreover, the whole-day primary school in Rizokarpaso will not be able to operate as it will not have any food supplies for the children`s meals.

7. President announces new projects for Nicosia district worth 420 million euro

President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades announced on Thursday a number of new projects for the Nicosia District worth 420 million euro. The President said that the total expenditure for the Nicosia district, including funding for research and development (56 million) and grants for the University of Cyprus from 2015 onwards (147.2), amounts to € 840.6 million.

8. Cyprus successfully promoted in the Russian market as an ideal health and wellness destination, CTO says

Cyprus meets all the preconditions to become an ideal health and wellness destination for Russian tourists, the Cyprus Tourism Organisation said on Thursday. The CTO announced that it took part in the Cypriot delegation which visited Russia, organized with the cooperation of the Cyprus Health Services Promotion Board, the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism, the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Russian Health Travel Council (RHTC).

9. Cyprus can become China`s bridge within the One Belt-One Road Initiative, Kaouris tells CNA

Cyprus can become China’s bridge with the markets of the EU, Russia, the Middle East and North Africa, thus contributing to Chinese plans within the framework of the "One Belt - One Road" Investment Initiative, President of the Cyprus-China Business Association, Panicos Kaouris has told CNA. Kaouris pointed out that "China is currently the largest investor in the world. It is extremely important for our government and our business community to invest more in our approach to this country and in attracting Chinese investors to Cyprus ".

10. Cyprus taking the lead in Women International Shipping & Trading Association

Women International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA), a professional networking organisation for women in the Maritime industry, with almost 3000 members from around the globe, during its Annual General Meeting which took place in Rotterdam has carried out on Wednesday 4 October its annual elections.Despina Panayiotou Theodosiou, President of WISTA Cyprus, Board Member of the Chamber and Managing Director of Tototheo Maritime Ltd, has been unanimously elected as the President of WISTA.CNA
