1. Cyprus peace talks will resume, President Anastasiades says, pledging his determination to find a solution

The process aiming at a solution of the Cyprus problem will be resumed, President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades has said. In a televised address on the occasion of Cyprus’ Independence Day, celebrated on the 1st of October with a military parade, the President said that the failure to reach an agreement at the Crans Montana talks, held in June-July in Switzerland, will not halt the efforts of the Greek Cypriot side, which is ready to participate in the talks with the same strength and creativity.

2. Cyprus is a strategic partner in the fight against terrorism, US Secretary of State says

US Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson has described Cyprus as a "strategic partner" in the fight against terrorism, saying that Washington and Nicosia are doing important work in various fields, including border security. In a press statement to mark tomorrow`s anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Cyprus, he says  "Please pass my best wishes and those of the American people to the people of Cyprus as you celebrate the 57th anniversary of your independence."

3. UN team led by external expert expected to Cyprus in mid-October for an UNFICYP review

A UN team, led by an external expert, is expected to visit Cyprus in mid-October in the framework of the review of the UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), according to UNFICYP Spokesperson`s office. Invited by CNA to comment on a press report published on Sunday in "Phileleftheros" daily saying that a UN team, under United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix is expected to visit Cyprus around October 18 to proceed with an on the ground review of UNFICYP, the UN peace keeping force Spokesperson`s office said that "as requested by the Security Council in the most recent resolution renewing UNFICYP`s mandate, the UN Secretariat is conducting a review of the mission."

4. Finance Minister satisfied with conclusions of EC, ECB review

Finance Minister Harris Georgiades has described the conclusions of the latest European Commission and European Central Bank review of the Cyprus economy as the most positive ones since 2013.In his  statements to CNA the Minister pointed out that these conclusions demonstrate the recovery of the economy, the improvement of the labour market and the maintenance of a prudent management of public finances.

5. CTO and Hermes Airport promote Cyprus at "Routes World 2017"

Representatives of the Cyprus Tourism Organisation and Hermes Airports, who participated in the annual conference “Routes World 2017”, believe that their presence at the conference offers new promising prospects for Cyprus` aviation connectivity. This year`s conference was held in Barcelona, Spain, between 23-26 September and involved hundreds of airlines, airports and tourism agency representatives who discussed possible partnerships as well as wider changes and trends in the aviation sector, a press release says.CNA
