1. Greek FM: Raising security and guarantees issues at Cyprus peace talks a huge success

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias believes that the fact that the issue of security and guarantees with regard to the Cyprus problem was brought to the negotiating table was a big diplomatic success by Athens.

Cyprus has gained in stature tremendously in recent years and could shine even more once it overcomes its long-standing problem, outgoing Ambassador of Austria in Nicosia, Karl Mueller has told CNA, expressing optimism that there will be more opportunities for a political settlement.

3. Troika concludes mission in Cyprus

Troika representatives (IMF, European Commission, ECB), conclude on Friday their contacts in Cyprus,  in the framework of the third post monitoring mission on the island. The delegation arrived in Cyprus last Monday. OnThursday, they met with the Cyprus Land and Building Developers Association (LBDA).

Nobel prize winner Christopher Pissarides expressed the belief that mistakes made in the near past concerning the Cypriot economy will not be repeated since the situation is now supervised by the European Central Bank (ECB).

5. Government raises €5,76 million through a six-year bond issue

The Ministry of Finance raised €5,76 million through a six-year bond issue for natural persons 2017 – 2023, the Public Debt Management Office (PDMO) said in a press release.

6. EU loses €152 billion on VAT fraud in 2015, Cyprus loses 122 million

EU countries lost an estimated total of €152 billion in Value-Added Tax (VAT) revenue in 2015, according to a new study by the European Commission. Cyprus lost in 2015 an estimated amount of 122 million euro, the study shows. Both figures, according to the Commission call for a massive VAT rules reform, that Commissioner Pierre Moscovici will present later in October.

7. CSC present at World Maritime Day celebrations in London

Alexandros Josephides, the “IMO Maritime Ambassador for Cyprus” and Deputy Director General of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber (CSC), participated in World Maritime Day celebrations, held on Thursday at the IMO Headquarters in London and presented CSC activities to promote the maritime and seafaring professions in Cyprus.

8. Industrial production increases 6,5% in July

The Index of Industrial Production for July 2017 reached 102,8 units (base 2010=100), recording an increase of 6,5% compared to July 2016.

9. Average monthly earnings slightly increase in Q2

The average gross monthly earnings of employees during the second quarter of 2017, amounted to €1.798 compared to €1.793 during the second quarter of 2016, according to preliminary estimations, recording an increase of 0,3%.

10. Cyprus bids farewell to Queen’s Baton Relay

Cyprus marked the completion of the Queen’s Baton Relay on the island with a reception, held at Nicosia’s Olympic Hall. The country hosted between September 25 and 28 the Baton Relay, ahead of the 21st Commonwealth Games “Gold Coast 2018”.CNA
