1. President Anastasiades to express determination to UN chief to continue Cyprus talks

President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades has pointed out that the Turkish positions for a solution to the Cyprus problem outside the parameters of the United Nations should cause concern. The President was speaking to journalists on his arrival on Monday in New York for the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly.

2. Cypriot Foreign Minister holds series of contacts in New York

Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Ioannis Kasoulides, in the context of his participation in the 72nd UN General Assembly in New York, attended a high-level meeting on Monday, under the auspices of the UN Secretary General, for the combatting of sexual exploitation and abuse.

3. Permanent Representatives review in Strasbourg Turkey’s compliance with ECHR judgements

The Committee of Ministers meets on Tuesday, in Strasbourg, to supervise the execution of European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) judgements, including the cases from Cyprus in relation to missing persons and the Turkish-occupied properties.

4. Cyprus Presidential Elections to be proclaimed on December 15

The Cyprus Minister of Interior will proclaim the 2018 Cyprus Presidential Elections on December 15, 2017, and on the same day will appoint the Chief Returning Officer. The first round of the Presidential Elections will take place on January 28 and the second, if needed, on February 4, 2018.

5. Ministry of Foreign Affairs monitors situation with Hurricane Maria in the Caribbean

Cyprus Foreign Ministry is monitoring the situation as regards Hurricane Maria, expected to hit the areas of Puerto Rico and the Eastern Caribbean as of Tuesday. The Ministry has issued an announcement and advises Cypriots who reside in the areas or plan to travel there to be cautious and follow the local media and the instructions given.

6. Minister welcomes new Defence Attache at Israeli Embassy

Defence Minister Christoforos Fokaidis had a meeting on Monday at his office with Israeli Ambassador to Cyprus Yael Ravia-Zadok, accompanied by the new Defence Attache at the Embassy, Captain Zvika Shahar.

7. Transport Minister speaks of significant increase in productivity at Cyprus’ ports and airports

Transport Minister Marios Demetriades said on Monday that there has been a significant increase in productivity at the Cypriot ports and airports as a result of close cooperation between the public and the private sector.

8. Kuwaiti MPs express their country’s full support to a Cyprus settlement

Rakan Yousef Al Nasef, Head of the Cyprus-Kuwait Friendship Group at the National Assembly of Kuwait, expressed on Monday his country’s full support towards Cyprus, with regards to a Cyprus settlement. During a meeting in Nicosia with Acting President of the Republic and President of the Cyprus House of Representatives, Demetris Syllouris, Al Nasef - who is heading the Kuwaiti delegation - also expressed Kuwait’s readiness to work on all sectors and expand further relations with Cyprus.

9. Cyprus Institute launches project to create a Centre of Excellence in Simulation and Data Science

Αiming  for the development of a Centre of Excellence in Simulation and Data Science, the Cyprus Institute launched on Monday in a ceremony, the competitive European Program “TEAMING”. The project that received funding from the European Union Horizon 2020 research and innovation program, was among around two hundred other programmes under the European Union’s “TEAMING” action.

10. Poetry and photo exhibition by Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots in the framework of Pafos 2017

The Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and European Capital of Culture Pafos 2017 are organizing a poetry and photo exhibition event titled "Rock and the Sea" to take place October 9 at Pafos Municipal Gallery. Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot artists will be presenting their work.CNA
