1. UNSG and Greek FM to discuss the Cyprus problem during a meeting in New York

The Cyprus problem will be discussed during a meeting between the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias on Sunday in New York. According to a UN source, Guterres expects to listen to the views of the parties involved in the Cyprus problem, before activating anew his good offices mission for Cyprus, after the Conference on Cyprus that took in place in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, ended without an agreement.

2. Greek Cypriot side always ready to return to the negotiating table, Presidential Commissioner says

The Greek Cypriot side is always ready to return to the negotiating table if the basic preconditions set out by the UN Secretary General for the establishment of a normal state without foreign guarantees and invevention rights by any third country are met,  Presidential Commissioner Photis Photiou said on Saturday.

3. Minister of Finance: Latest S&P rating on Cyprus a positive sign for international investors

Minister of Finance Harris Georgiades said Saturday that the latest rating by Standard and Poor`s on Cyprus economy, is a positive sign for the international investment community that supports the effort of Cyprus to strengthen confidence and growth prospects. As he pointed out in a written statement, the revise of the outlook on Cyprus long-term credit rating to positive from stable by S & P, is the last step before Cyprus` return to investment grade.

4. Strategic default "makes me impatient" Bank of Cyprus CEO says

Bank of Cyprus Managing Director, John Patrick Hourican said the bank, four years past the financial crisis has started to lose its patience with strategic defaulters. As the bank has utilised four tools in its quest for reducing non-performing loans which amount to 50% of its total loan book, (restructurings, write downs, write off and debt-to-asset-swaps), Hourican said  in an interview with CNA that loan sales constitute a tool that potentially could accelerate NPL reduction, stressing however this is a fine line between faster NPL reduction and the protection of the bank’s capital.

5. Cyprus and Spain to cooperate on organ donation

The issue of organ donation was discussed between the Minister of Health of Cyprus, George Pamboridis and his Spanish counterpart Dolors Montserrat, in a meeting in Spain. According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, during a working visit by the Minister of Health in Spain, the two Ministers reviewed the two countries` relations on health issues.CNA
