1. President Anastasiades ready to return to talks, provided fundamental prerequisites are met

President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades expressed on Sunday the Greek Cypriot side’s readiness to return to the negotiating table, provided that the fundamental preconditions set by the UN Secretary General for the creation of a normal state.

On Saturday, President Anastasiades said he is seeking a specific structure in the efforts to reunify Cyprus that will result in a solution which will be presented to the future generations.

Addressing the 21st conference of the ruling Democratic Rally’s youth orgnisation (NEDISY), Anastasiades said that this structure will be based on young peoples’ creative qualities, without elements that promote division and cause new friction and tension.

2. Cypriot Energy Minister informed on results of exploratory drilling in “Onisiforos” offshore Block 11

Energy Minister Giorgos Lakkotrypis was briefed on the results of exploratory drilling in the field “Onisiforos” of Cyprus’ offshore Block “11” by energy majors ENI and Total. Government sources said on Saturday Energy Ministry technocrats are evaluating the facts before them and on Tuesday Lakkotrypis will inform the House Commerce Committee before making statements to the press.

3. More than 300 undocumented migrants rescued off the north-west coast of Cyprus

Two boats carrying more than 300 undocumented migrants arrived in the early hours of Sunday off the north-west coast of the island and one person has already been arrested for human trafficking.
 
4. Turkish Cypriots visit Limassol Wine Festival

Around 100 Turkish Cypriots who come from the southern coastal town of Limassol reconfirmed their relations with their hometown as they attended the Wine Festival on Saturday at the invitation of Limassol Municipality.
 The gathering was held as part of the common activities of the Turkish Cypriot Cultural Centre in occupied Kyrenia and the Limassol Cultural Centre.
 
5. Cypriots Georgios Achilleos and Nicolas Vasiliou win bronze medals at the ISSF Championship in Moscow

Cyprus’ Georgios Achilleos won bronze in the men’s Skeet at the 2017 ISSF Shotgun World Championship in Moscow Region while Nicolas Vasiliou also finished the Junior men’s skeet with a bronze medal.CNA
