1. President assures effort for protection of children’s rights will continue

President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades has assured that the state will continue its efforts for the protection of children’s rights.The President was speaking during a meeting with Commissioner for the Protection of Children’s Rights Leda Koursoumba, who presented him with the annual report of her office for the year 2015.

2. Presidential Commissioner: The struggle continues, despite Turkish intransigence

Presidential Commissioner Photis Photiou assured on Monday that, “despite Turkish intransigence and provocativeness, which are being strengthened by the passing of time too, our side will continue to struggle with an aim to reach a solution plan, which will achieve the reunification of our homeland, satisfying the expectations our people.”

3. FinMin auctions 13 week T-Bills of €100 million

The Finance Ministry has auctioned 13 week T-Bills of the order of €100 million.In a press release the Public Debt Management Office announces "that during today’s 13 Week Treasury Bills Auction, tenders for a total amount of €173 mn were submitted,  out of which, €100 mn total nominal value have been accepted with a weighted average yield of -0.04%."

4. Deposits are up, loans drop in July, Central Bank data show

Deposits in the country’s banking system recorded an increase of around half a billion euro in July while loans declined by €358.7 million, data released on Monday by the Central Bank of Cyprus show. According to the data total deposits in July 2017 recorded a net increase of €513.4 million compared to a net drop of €432.9 million in June 2017. The annual rate of change was 4.7% compared to 4.2% in June 2017.

5. Italian navy training vessel "Palinuro" docks at Larnaca port

The historic Italian training vessel "ITS Palinuro" has arrived in Larnaca and will be open to the public for the next three days. Giuseppe Valentini, commanding officer of « ITS Palinuro» said that the ship is used by the Italian navy to train cadets.

6. ISSF Shotgun World Championship begins Wednesday in Moscow

The 2017 ISSF Shotgun World Championship begins on Wednesday, August 30, at FOXLODGE Shooting Range in Moscow. The Championship of Trap and Skeet will conclude on September 11. A total of 665 shooters and teams from 78 countries will participate in the Championship, while 370 officials will attend the event. Cypriot shooters Andreas Makris, Christoforos Constantinides and Georgia Constantinidou are also taking part.

7. Five games in round 2 of Cyprus championship, two to go

Three football matches were held on Sunday in the framework of round 2 of the Cyprus League, with AEK, Anorthosis, and Doxa securing their first wins in the championship. On Saturday, Ethnikos clinched its first win, while the only draw was in the Aris – Nea Salamina match.CNA
