1. Enlightenment is the key to promoting the Cyprus issue, overseas Cypriots note

Enlightenment is the only weapon that can help promote the national issue, the leaders of Cypriot diaspora said on Thursday. Noting the success of the 19th World Conference of the World Federation of Overseas Cypriots (POMAK), the International Coordinating Committee - Justice for Cyprus (PSEKA) and the World Conference of Young Overseas Cypriots (NEPOMAK), the  overseas Cypriots told a press conference that their efforts will continue especially after the collapse of the latest talks for a Cyprus settlement at Crans Montana.

2. P. Pavlopoulos: Greece and the Greek people must defend Cyprus

“Greece and the Greek people must defend Cyprus, its sovereign rights and the liberation of Cypriot soil”, said Prokopis Pavlopoulos, the President of the Hellenic Republic. Pavlopoulos made the statement on Thursday, during a reception in the Monastery of Agios Dionysios of Zakynthos, in the presence of Archbishop Chrysostomos II of Cyprus.

3. Cyprus and Egypt sign program for implementing their military cooperation

A military delegation from Egypt’s Ministry of Defence paid a three-day visit to Cyprus and signed with Nicosia a program for the implementation of military cooperation. While in Cyprus, the Egyptian delegation met with officials from the Ministry of the Defence, the National Guard General Staff and the Joint Rescue Coordination Center.

4. Retail trade records significant increase in first half of the year

Retail trade in Cyprus recorded a significant increase in the first half of the year and also in June, figures released by the Statistical Service of Cyprus on Thursday showed. On the basis of provisional estimates, the Turnover Volume Index of Retail Trade for June 2017 increased by 6.4% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and reached 100.8 units, Cystat announced.

5. APOEL FC qualifies for Champions League Group Stage

APOEL FC of Nicosia managed on Wednesday to qualify for the UEFA Champions League Group Stage, for the fourth time in its history. The team from Nicosia drew against Slavia Prague in the Czech Republic and, in combination with its victory with 2-0 last week at GSP Stadium, managed to secure a place in the Group Stage of Champions League, along with the elite of the European football teams.CNA
