The parties in Cyprus are in a period of reflection, the United Nations said, adding that the UNSG will make a decision on the way forward in due course.
 
2. Morphou hands resolution calling on UN and EU to exert pressure on Turkey

The United Nations and the European Union must exert pressure upon Turkey to change its attitude and work towards a just solution to the Cyprus problem and the restoration of the basic human rights of all Cypriots, the Municipal Council and Cultural and Athletic Organisations of Morphou point out in a resolution for the 43rd anniversary since the Turkish invasion of Cyprus.
 
3. Cypriot fire-fighters mission to Greece called off as fire under control

The group of sixty Cypriot fire-fighters that was ready to contribute the straggle to combat fires in Greece will not fly to Athens, as there is currently no active front fire in eastern Attica and Ilia region. The group’s arrival comprising fire-fighters from the Cyprus Fire Services, the Forestry Department and the Cyprus Civil Defence was re-scheduled yesterday due to a technical problem in the Greek air-force plane, C-130, that would have transferred them to Athens.

4. Strengthening the EU Mechanism to combat forest fires a priority for Commissioner Stylianides

European Commissioner Christos Stylianides aims to strengthen the EU’s Civil Protection Mechanism, which is activated at the request of member states to assist in tackling wild fires or other natural disasters. This summer, five countries have activated the Mechanism, requesting assistance from other participating states to put out forest fires in their territories, with Portugal receiving most of the Mechanism’s solidarity so far.
 
5. GDP increases in Cyprus by 3.5% in Q2 2017 on annual basis, and by 2.2% in the Eurozone

GDP in Cyprus increased by 3.5% in Q2 of 2017 compared to Q2 2016 and further by 0.9% compared to Q1 2017, according to a flash estimate published today by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.CNA
