1. Foreign Minister:Ready to discuss opening of Varosha as confidence building measure

Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides has expressed readiness to discuss the opening of the fenced off area of Famagusta, known as Varosha, under UN aegis as a confidence building measure (CBM), to enable its lawful inhabitants to return to their homes.The Minister also said that the UN support the opening of Varosha as a CBM only if both sides on the island agree to it, and not a unilateral decision, as Turkish press reports suggest.
 
 
2. Foreign Minister meets with the Maronite Representative in Parliament

Minister of Foreign Affairs Ioannis Kasoulides met on Monday with the Maronite Representative in the Parliament Yiannakis Mousas.
On his twitter account the Minister wrote: `` I just had a very useful and constructive meeting with the Maronite Representative Yiannakis Mousas``. The meeting follows a decision of the Turkish army regarding the Maronite villages in the Turkish occupied areas of Cyprus.
 
3. Italian Minister of Defence pays official visit to Cyprus

Italian Defence Minister Roberta Pinotti pays today an official visit to Cyprus at the invitation of Cypriot Defence Minister Christoforos Fokaides. According to a press release by the PIO,  Pinotti will be officially welcomed by Defence Minister Fokaides at the National Guard General Staff premises in Nicosia, where a tete - a - tete meeting will be held between the two Ministers, followed by extended deliberations between the two delegations.
 
4. Cystat reports big increase in revenue from tourism

Revenue from tourism recorded a significant increase in the fifth month of the year and the first five months, the Statistical Service of Cyprus reported on Monday. On the basis of the results of the Passenger Survey, revenue from tourism reached €291,5 mn in May 2017 compared to €244,7 mn in the corresponding month of the previous year, recording an increase of 19.1%.CNA
