1. National Council convenes to discuss way forward in Cyprus issue

President Nicos Anastasiades chairs, on Monday, a meeting of the National Council, the top advisory body to the President, comprising parliamentary party leaders, with discussions expected to focus on the way forward in the Cyprus issue. The meeting is set to begin at 0930 hours local tie (0630 GMT). Members of the National Council are set to exchange views on the state of affairs and the next steps which should be taken.

New EU-Turkey dialogue will be an incentive for a new beginning on Cyprus problem, President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades has stated. In an interview to Sunday’s newspaper “Kathimerini”, his first after the conclusion of Crans-Monata Conference on Cyprus, speaks about what happened during the Conference, the reasons the Conference did not conclude successfully and the framework of the “next day” regarding the Cyprus problem.

3. Cyprus should utilise its EU member-state status to exert pressure on Turkey, House President says

Cyprus utilising its European identity should exert pressure on Turkey to change the future developments on the Cyprus question, House of Representatives President Demetris Syllouris has said, adding a Cyprus settlement remains our priority. “The Cyprus problem, as our priority, remains the most important issue on the present and the future of our country,” Syllouris said addressing a national memorial service to commemorate the heroes of the community of Kampos during the 1974 coup d’etat and the Turkish invasion.

The solution of the Cyprus problem would be decisive in the creation of a modern state safeguarding the conditions of prosperity, security and prospect for its citizens, Minister of Finance Harris Georgiades has said, adding this settlement should come from the 21st century and not the sad past.

5. French Defence Minister visits Cyprus

French Defence Minister Florence Parly will pay Cyprus a short visit on Monday and meet with her Cypriot counterpart Christophoros Fokaides, in the southern coastal town of Larnaka. According to Cyprus News Agency sources Parly’s visit to Cyprus takes place in the context of a regional visit. She is expected to arrive in Larnaka on board a French Navy frigate today, probably in late afternoon, the same sources say, where she will meet with Fokaides.

6. Delegation of Supreme Court discusses judicial issues in Russia

A delegation of the Supreme Court of Cyprus has held an in-depth discussion on a series of judicial issues of common interest with the President of the Supreme Court of Russia, Vyacheslav Lebedev during an official visit of the delegation to the country, the previous week. The delegation comprised the President of the Supreme Court Myron Nicolatos and Court members Leonidas Parparinos, Michalakis Christodoulou and Antonis Liatsos.

7. Cyprus hosts workshop for key threats in areas of defence and security

Cyprus has hosted a workshop aimed at mapping the key threats in the areas of defence and security, identifying deficiencies and best practices to ensure infrastructure protection and energy autonomy. The workshop took place last week and it was organized by the Cyprus Defence Ministry at the premises of the Cyprus University of Technology.CNA
