1. Constantinos Petrides appointed Interior Minister

The Presidency has announced the appointment of Constantinos Petrides as Interior Minister
Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades has also decided to appoint Vasilis Palmas in the position of Deputy Minister to the President, a position held by Petrides and Michalis Sophocleous in the post of Director of the Office of the President.

2. Negotiators to hold new meeting on Tuesday

The negotiators of the two sides in Cyprus, Andreas Mavroyiannis and Ozdil Nami, will have a new meeting on Tuesday morning. Meanwhile UN Secretary General`s Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide is expected to arrive back to the island in the early hours of Wednesday, May 10. On the same day Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci will have a meeting here with the Director General and Head of the Structural Reform Support Service in the European Commission Maarten Verwey to review the progress of the relevant ad hoc Committee`s work as regards the Turkish Cypriot`s harmonisation with the acquis communautaire.

3. Greece will offer Cyprus any help needed to face Turkish threats, Greek FM says

Greece will offer Cyprus any help it needs to deal with threats by Turkey in the Republic’s Exclusive Economic Zone, says Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias, in an interview published in the Athens newspaper Real News.

4. Oman and Cyprus discuss ways to further strengthen economic ties

Chairman of the Consultation Council of Oman, Khalid Al Mawali and Speaker of the House of Representatives Demetris Syllouris discussed Monday ways to further strengthen economic ties between Oman and Cyprus.

5. The news agencies of Cyprus and Oman sign cooperation agreement

The Cyprus News Agency and the Oman News Agency have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, aimed to strengthen relations between the two agencies and the two countries. The Memorandum was signed in Muscat, capital of the Sultanate of Oman, by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus News Agency Larkos Larkou and the Director General, Editor-in-Chief of the Oman News Agency Dr Mohamed Al-Araimi. Larkou was accompanied by CNA Director George Penintaex.

6. Crowning of Cyprus league champion delayed

Cyprus league leader APOEL drew 0-0 with second-placed AEK on Sunday and needs a victory in the championship`s two remaining match days to secure its fifth consecutive title, as it maintains the four-point difference from the Larnaca club. The league`s 8th match day concludes on Monday with the tie between AEL and Anorthosis that begins on 19:00 local time in Tsirion Stadium. Apollon FC of Limassol defeated on Sunday Omonia of Nicosia with 3-0. On Saturday, Ermis Aradippou beat Nea Salamina with 3-0, Ethnikos Ahnas drew 1-1 with Aris of Limassol and Doxa Katokopias defeated Karmiotissa with 2-1. Doxa`s victory means that it equals Karmiotissa with 34 points in the league bottom and the team to be relegated will be decided in the next two rounds.CNA
