1. UNSG to be updated by Eide on Cyprus talks

UN Secretary-General`s Special Adviser on Cyprus, Espen Barth Eide, will update SG Antonio Guterres on developments in Cyprus this week. According to reports, Guterres will meet with Eide on Friday. He will also meet with members of the Security Council and other parties.

2. Syllouris says we need to safeguard the Cyprus Republic

We are at a crucial turning point with a possible solution to the Cyprus problem and it is essential to make sure that we safeguard the Republic of Cyprus and the Hellenism in Cyprus, House Speaker Dimitris Syllouris has said. He was speaking on Tuesday during an event at Aristotelion University in Thessaloniki, Greece, to commemorate the anniversary of the anti-colonial liberation struggle of 1955-1959.

Police investigations into the kidnapping of a four-year old girl are on good track, Minister of Justice and Public Order Ionas Nicolaou has said. According to a press release by the Presidency, replying to questions, the Minister said that police are making every effort to fully investigate the case and locate the four-year-old girl.

Cypriot Minister of Finance Harris Georgiades supported on Wednesday the scenario calling for “less is better” in the EU, and called on everyone to realise that policy and bureaucracy in the EU had reached their limits.
5. GDP to grow by 3.1% in 2017, ERC predicts

The expansion of real economic activity in Cyprus is expected tο continue in 2017 at slightly faster rates vis-à-vis those registered in 2016, the Economics Research Centre of the University of Cyprus said on Wednesday. ERC predicts that in 2017, real GDP will grow by 3.1%.

6. Cyprus records in March 2017 the highest monthly Industrial Producer Prices increase in the EU

Industrial producer prices in Cyprus increased by 1.3% in March 2017 compared with February 2017, and by 5.3% compared to March 2016, according to estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. That was the highest increase recorded on a monthly basis in the EU, followed by Lithuania (+1.1%) and Ireland (+0.9%)
7. Government`s surplus records annual increase in January-March 2017

General Government’s budget balance stood at €200.9 million in January-March 2017, according to data released on Friday by the Finance Ministry and the Statistical Service of Cyprus, compared to €146.3 million during the same period in 2016.

Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot politicians meeting at Ledra Palace under the auspices of the Slovak Embassy visited Lefka crossing on Wednesday, to inspect the work underway for the opening of the checkpoint.
