1. Dialogue for Cyprus solution will not affect exercise of sovereign rights, President Anastasiades says

The ongoing dialogue for a solution to the Cyprus problem will not, in anyway, affect the Republic of Cyprus` exercise of sovereign rights, Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades has stressed. Acting Government Spokesman Victoras Papadopoulos said, in a written statement, that President Anastasiades returned from Brussels on Sunday and was informed about newspaper reports concerning a new Geneva conference.Whether there will be a similar development will depend entirely on the progress achieved during the ongoing dialogue, said Papadopoulos.

2. Cyprus leaders to meet on Tuesday

The leaders of the two communities in Cyprus, namely President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades and the Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci, will meet on Tuesday, in the context of the UN-led peace talks aiming at reunifying the island under a federal roof.According to well informed sources, the two leaders are expected to talk about effective participation in government, EU matters, governance as well as representation of the two communities to institutions and bodies of the federal state, to be established.

3. Research and survey vessel Ramform Hyperion docks at Limassol port

Research and survey vessel Ramform Hyperion has docked at Limassol port, on Cyprus` southern coast, to carry out seismic research in the Republic`s exclusive economic zone (EEZ). The vessel arrived from the Mitsubishi shipyard, in Nagasaki in Japan, after she had carried out all the necessary tests in Singapore. She is expected to carry out three-dimensional seismic research and surveys until mid August this year.

4. Cyprus participates actively in the EU, spokesman tells CNA

Thirteen years after the accession of the Republic of Cyprus to the EU, the country moves forward in a serious and consistent manner, participating actively and effectively in the Union, Government Spokesman Nikos Christodoulides has told CNA. In a statement to CNA on the occasion of the 13th anniversary of Cyprus` accession to the EU, Christodoulides said that the country continues its efforts to use its capacity as an EU member state, with a view to further promote its interests, the interests of its citizens and the European vision.

5. Thirteen years of Cyprus` EU membership

The EU proceeded thirteen years ago, on May 1st 2004, with its fifth and biggest enlargement ever, by welcoming ten more countries, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia.``Today marks an important day in the history of the Republic of Cyprus. The dream and efforts of many years are concluded today with Cyprus` full accession to the EU as an equal member state", Tassos Papadopoulos, who was then President of the Republic of Cyprus, had said.

6. Tackling unemployment our highest priority, says Minister in her message on Labour Day

The highest priority for the government is to tackle unemployment, through a coordinated effort that has begun to deliver the first positive and promising results, said Minister of Labour and Social Insurance Zeta Emilianidou in her message on Labour Day .According to a PIO announcement, the Minister noted that unemployment has fallen from 15.9% in 2013 to 12.9% in 2016 and a significant number of citizens have returned to the labour market.

7. Kontides: childhood dream winning gold at Hyères World Cup

Cypriot laser sailor Pavlos Kontides achieved a childhood dream by winning the men`s laser competition, as the Sailing World Cup in Hyères came to an end. The 27-year old sailor, arriving back in Cyprus from France, said his new gold medal was a “great success, the greatest” after the silver medal he won at the London Olympics in 2012.CNA
