1. Opening more chapters for Turkey “makes no sense”, EP and EPP senior official tells CNA

Opening further EU accession chapters doesn’t make any sense while the situation in Turkey continues to deteriorate, says David McAllister, the Chair of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee (AFET) and EPP Vice President.  The German MEP and close associate of German Chancellor Angela Merkel expresses concern over the situation in Turkey, but says that dialogue with Ankara needs to be maintained.

2. Parliament stands ready to further enhance ties with Russia, House President tells Russian MPs

Cyprus and Russia share close ties, House of Representatives Demetris Syllouris said yesterday, adding that the Cyprus parliament stands ready to further enhance their relations at the parliamentary level. He was speaking to deputies of the Russian State Duma Andrey Klimov, Vladimir Lukin and Alexander Vaynberg who he received.  On his part, Klimov expressed Russia`s support to Cyprus. The Russian deputies are in Cyprus to attend the events organized in the framework of the third Pan-European Festival Marathon which this year is included in the events of Pafos 2017.

3. Indian High Commissioner and Transport Minister discuss cooperation in space sciences

The Indian High Commissioner Ravi Bangar and Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Marios Demetriades, exchanged yesterday views on further enhancing existing excellent, traditionally historic relations between India and Cyprus. They also discussed possibilities of cooperation in the area of space sciences. The High Commissioner presented to the Minister scale models of India’s space launcher, satellites, books, publications and poster, the press release added.

4. Cypriot led team wins X Prize for tricorder prototype to monitor health and diagnose illnesses

Final Frontier Medical Devices, a Pennsylvania-based team led by Cypriot brothers Dr. Basil Harris, an emergency medicine physician, and George Harris, a network engineer, took home the 1st place at Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE competition. The Cypriot led team received $2.6M for their "Star Trek tricorder inspired" artificial intelligence-based engine, DxtER, that learns to diagnose medical conditions by integrating learnings from clinical emergency medicine with data analysis from actual patients.CNA
