1. President hopes convergences in new round of talks to lead to a Cyprus settlement

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades expressed hope that the new round of talks will lead to convergences between the two sides, that will bring about a Cyprus settlement. The UN Secretary General`s Special Adviser for Cyprus Espen Barth Eide, posted on his twitter account that it is time for leadership. Meanwhile, the negotiators of the two communities in Cyprus, Andreas Mavroyiannis and Ozdil Nami, are meeting on Wednesday.

2. Cyprus’ sovereign rights not negotiable, says President

The sovereign rights of the Republic of Cyprus are not under any negotiation, President Nicos Anastasiades has said. Speaking to the press on Wednesday and invited to comment on statements made by the Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci regarding exploratory drilling in Cyprus’ exclusive economic zone during the next months, the President said that the sovereign rights of the Republic are not negotiable and that he has not accepted or is willing to accept to be brought to the negotiating table “anything that has to do with the sovereignty of the Cyprus Republic”.

Cyprus Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) reached in March 2017 1.5% recording a four-year high since February 2013, according to data released today by the Cyprus Statistical Service.

6. Cyprus` annual industrial production up by 7.1% in January

Cyprus` industrial production was up this January by 7.1% compared to the same month of 2016, according to the latest data available by Eurostat.

Cyprus` trade deficit in January 2017 jumped by 58% to €349.8 million compared with €220.9 million in the corresponding period of 2016, the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat) said on Tuesday.

The Heads of State or Government of the Southern European Union countries, namely Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal and Spain, have reiterated their support to the process for the reunification of Cyprus, without guarantees, in line with UN Security Council resolutions and the EU acquis.

12. President sees further deepening of Cyprus-Spain relations

Turkish threats against activities in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of the Republic of Cyprus are "nothing new" Energy Minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis said on Monday. Asked to comment on a relevant announcement by the Turkish Foreign Ministry, last Friday, Lakkotrypis said Ankara displayed a similar conduct back in 2011 and 2012 and called for calm and sober reactions.

16. Building permits increased in January 2017

The number of building permits authorized by the municipal authorities and the district administration offices during January 2017 stood at 465 compared to 356 in January 2016, according to figures published today by the Statistical Service.

17. Registration of motor vehicles increases in Q1 2017

The total registrations of motor vehicles increased by 38,2% to 10.334 in January-March 2017, from 7.475 vehicles in the same period of 2016, according to figures announced today by the Statistical Service.CNA
