1. President takes part in Southern EU Countries Summit, briefs leaders on Cyprus talks

President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades leaves Sunday for Madrid, Spain, where he will participate in the Summit of the seven Southern European Union countries that will take place on 10 April, a press release of the Press and Information Office said. On April 10, on the sidelines of the Summit, the President of the Republic will meet separately with the Prime Minister of Spain Mariano Rajoy at the Prime Minister’s Office, the press release said.

All chapters of the Cyprus question are thorny and everything depends on Turkey`s positions, Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides has told CNA in an interview, adding that Nicosia is ready for a solution which will serve the rights of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriots but it does not consider it has an obligation to serve the interests of Turkish nationals.The Minister pointed out that once security matters are cleared, this will help a great deal the solution effort, adding that the word compromise implies reciprocity
3. Cypriot Parliament calls on international community to acknowledge Armenian genocide

The Parliament in Cyprus condemned on Friday the 102 anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, calling on the international community to acknowledge the genocide. Addressing the House of Representatives at the start of the plenary session, Speaker Demetris Syllouris said that even if more than a century have gone by since the Armenian Genocide of 24th April 1915 when Turkey applied an ethnic cleansing plan against Armenians, Turkey refuses to acknowledge the murder of one and a half million Armenians.

 4. FM: Trump`s military action in Syria not outside international law, if proven it concerns serious violations

Nicosia believes that US President Donald Trump`s decision for military action in Syria is not considered to be beyond international law and order, provided it is proven that it concerns serious violation of humanitarian law, Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides has told CNA, invited to comment on developments in the region. Cyprus, he said, is in line with the announcement issued by the EU High Representative on the matter Federica Mogerini, adding that Nicosia wants to see an end to the bloodshed in Syria and the normalisation of the situation in the country.

 5. Cyprus condemns the terrorist attack in Stockholm

The Republic of Cyprus unreservedly condemns the terrorist attack carried out οn 7 April 2017 in Stockholm and expresses its full support to, and solidarity with, the Government and people of Sweden, an announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says adding that at this difficult moment, our thoughts are with the victims and their families.“Cyprus stands by Sweden, as well as its other international partners, in the fight against international terrorism. It strongly condemns such heinous acts and calls on all concerned to combine and intensify their efforts to combat the scourge of terrorism”, the announcement concludes.

 6. Eurogroup comments Cyprus on post program Economic perfomance

The institutions participating in the post-programme review and Cyprus` Minister for Finance Harris Georgiades briefed Friday the Eurogroup on the outcome of the recent post-programme surveillance mission to Cyprus.According to a written statement, they reassured the Ministers that the Cypriot authorities remain committed to continuing sound economic policies. They also confirmed that there was no risk of non-repayment of the loans Cyprus had received from the European Stability Mechanism in the context of its macroeconomic adjustment programme of 2013-2016.

 7. US attack on Syria a serious blow to Russian – US relations, Russian ambassador says

Russian ambassador in Nicosia Stanislav Osadchiy said on Friday, that the US attack on Syria constitutes a serious blow to the Russian – US relations, while a US embassy official said his country is certain that chemicals were used by the Syrian President Bashar Assad`s regime. Osadchiy was addressing an event at the University of Nicosia entitled “The EU, Russia and the USA in the Trump Era.”

 8. Government will continue its hydrocarbons policy, Foreign Ministry stresses

The Government of Cyprus reaffirmed on Friday its determination to continue its policy in the field of hydrocarbons thus fully exercising its sovereignty and sovereign rights in total respect of international and European law, after Turkey`s threat that it will not allow hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation in areas under the jurisdiction of the Republic of Cyprus.
9. House prices rise in Cyprus at Q4 by 3.1% and 2.8% in quarterly and annual basis.

House prices, as measured by the House Price Index, rose during the 4th quarter of 2016 by 3.1% in Cyprus compared to the previous quarter and by 2.8% compared to the same quarter of the previous year, according to Eurostat. Meanwhile house prices rose by 4.1% in the euro area and by 4.7% in the EU in the fourth quarter of 2016 compared with the same quarter of the previous year.  Compared with the third quarter of 2016, house prices rose by 0.8% in both zones in the fourth quarter of 2016.CNA
