Limassol Toastmasters White Witch Who Presented Table Topics
Chrissie Ball Receives her Trophy For Best Speaker
As the President Bob Buckerfield warmly welcomed Members and Guests he informed them that this date 16th February 2012, was going to be the date that Limassol Toastmasters joined in the Carnival mood; announcing a fun filled and illuminating evening for everyone.
Bob Buckerfield continued with the Business Session for Special Officers Reports, explaining how it had been recently introduced to allow Officers in the Committee to explain their roles, encouraging Members to apply in the forthcoming elections. VP Public Relations; Sylvia Buckerfield and Sergeant-at-Arms; Anne Parker, both gave brief descriptions of their duties.
He then went on to introduce the Toastmaster for the evening, Julia Papageorgiou who had only joined the Club in June 2011 and was confident enough to take on a 'Master-of-Ceremonies' role so soon, proving the encouragement and learning techniques used by Limassol Toastmasters really works!
Madam Toastmaster Julia Papageorgiou introduced the scheduled programme, welcoming the audience and informing them she would lead them through a Carnival mood fun evening with an unusual twist, assuring them they should not be alarmed at the presence of a White Witch as all would be revealed ater before the Table Topics session.
The Toast for the evening was presented by Maria Danilaki de Wehrhahne;
expressing at this time of year we were all vulnerable to those nasty
coughs, colds, tummy bugs and flu viruses, and asked all to raise their
glasses in a toast to 'Good Health'.
Humourist; Bob Buckerfield spoke as though he had in-depth knowledge on 'Words & Phrases used by Women' an extremely funny but true account of how men have to try and fathom the meanings of these words, for example "Five Minutes" equates to half an hour or more when she is dressing to go out - but it's exactly five minutes when he wants to watch football.
Julia was now able to reveal all as she introduced the Table Topics session presented by a 'White Witch', Madam Table Topics Master; Sylvia Buckerfield who swept across the floor on her broomstick equipped with hat and magic wand. Assuring her audience she would only conjure up good spells', she then explained the purpose of Table Topics; it improves confidence in the skill of impromptu speaking enabling a person to reply efficiently to an unexpected question. Sylvia proceeded to wave her magic wand and changed her victims one by one; Mike Ball became a Cockerel - Peter Sheldrake became a Goldfish - Anne Parker became a Mouse - Emilio Wehrhahne became a Trained Sniffer Dog - Maria Danilaki de Wehrhahne became a Beautiful Persian Feline - Kevin Mannion became a Squirrel - and last but by no means least, Bob
Buckerfield became a chimpanzee.
Seven victims all asked a question in respect of what they had been changed into and each one produced an excellent and relevant answer within the time allowed of two minutes for each. The audience applauded each one.
There were five Speakers programmed for the second session of the evening, each would have a spoken as well as a written evaluation from a Member, giving the audience an opportunity to listen and learn from interesting speeches and their evaluations, a chance for guests who are thinking of joining to see how Limassol Toastmasters operate.
Julia introduced the Speaker's in programmed order; Mary Allen Ellina, 'Every Objects & Seeing Beyond the Obvious'. Chrissie Ball, 'The Bet', (part II of her last speech 'The Venice Incident'). Susan Rudd, 'Body Talk'. Konstantinos Dessis, 'You Don't have to use it'. Anne Parker, 'Get More to Give More'.
All five excellent speeches held the audience's attention and interest with there own imprint and message.
In the summing up of the evening General Evaluator Kevin Mannion remarked on the successful evening everyone had enjoyed, it had been one of the most entertaining and funniest Table Topics sessions performed. The audience had
being well entertained with first hand practical information on what Limassol Toastmasters has to offer and how it works, so why not come along and find out for yourselves.
Kevin then handed back to Julia who announced the Winners of Best Evaluator; Mike Ball - Best Table Topics; Anne Parker and Best Speaker; Chrissie Ball. Both Anne and Mike received Certificates at the lectern and Chrissie with a Trophy and Certificate.
