Kritou Marottou Village is located in the Paphos District of Cyprus, and is one of the oldest villages in the area.

The village lies close to Fyti, Anadiou, Lasa, Kannaviou and Sarama Villages.

The location of the village on the hillside overlooking the Kannaviou Valley was primarily chosen as protection from the constant attacks on the villages in the area from pirates. The village has clear views over the valley, enabling the villagers to see the attackers at an early stage, enabling the villagers to prepare the defence of the village.

Kritou Marottou Village was a mixed village consisting of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot residents. The majority of the residents were Greek Cypriot and now the entire village consists of only Greek Cypriot residents.

There are several legends as to how the village acquired it's name. The most popular is that the village was named after the two brothers who first settled in the village, Kritos and Marotos. The other popular legend was due to to the close proximity of another village with a similar name, Kritou Terra Village, and seemed to have a connection with travellers using the villages as staging posts. The different second name was to differentiate between the two villages.

Kritou Marottou Village was a farming village cultivating crops. The main crops were vineyards, olives, carobs and almonds. The village also had livestock, mainly consisting of sheep and goats.

The population of Kritou Marottou Village reached a peak in 1946 when there were 269 registered permanent residents. The official census of 2001 recorded 61 permanent residents. The population has fallen slightly since then to around 50 permanent residents. The village has suffered, as do many other Cyprus villages, from the younger population leaving in search of employment and education.
