Information on the Kalavasos Dam in Cyprus

The Kalavasos Dam is a rockfill dam.

The dam took 2 years to build which began in 1983 and completed in 1985.

The catchment area of the dam is 95.5 sq kilometres.

The reservoir area of the dam is 100 hectares and holds a capacity of 17,1 MCM.

The dam is built to a height of 60 metres and the length is 482 metres.

The planning, operation and maintenance is the responsibility of the Cyprus Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment - Water Development Department

The water is allocated at 2,00 MCM for domestic use and 5,65 MCM for irrigation use

The surrounding villages that benefit from the Kalavasos Dam are Kalavasos, Mari, Zygi, Tochni, Psematismenos and Maroni
