Kakopetria Village is located in the Troodos Mountains of Cyprus. It still has many old village houses and streets, which attracts many visitors.

Kakopetria in Greek means, Bad Stone. The village is famous for it's Kakopetria, but it is more of a bad luck stone than a bad stone, such as in evil.

The myth is that the stone crushed to death a newly married couple. It was a tradition to perform a ceremony by the newly married couple involving the stone. The couple had to perform a ritual to Aphrodite, the goddess of love, for which Cyprus is famous for.

The ritual, which all newly married couples had to perform, involved the couple sitting on top of the rock. This, as legend say's, would mean the gods would look favourable on the couple, and reward them with becoming very fertile. In other words, it was a kind of fertility ritual.

One couple had the misfortune of sitting on top of the rock, when the rock suddenly started to roll away and crushed the unfortunate couple to death.

The official name for the rock was Petra Tou Androgynou, which means the couples rock. The villagers changed the name to Kakopetria, or bad stone, after this unfortunate accident. The ritual was never performed with the stone ever again.
