Agros Village Troodos

Agros Is situated in the Troodos mountains on the South West part of the island. It lies at an altitude of 1100 metres.

History
The village aquired it's name from the Monastery of Megalos Agros, in Kizikos, Minor Asia. Folklore say's that monks arrived from Kizikos, escaping the troubles in the region, and settled there, building the new Monastery of Megalos in Agros, a replica of their earlier monastery in Kizikos.

Attractions
The mountain views are one of the main attractions of the village. The traditional character of the village has been kept, with it's narrow streets and traditional tavernas serving local food produce and wine.

Traditions
Agros is famous for it's rosewater. It has a tradition of growing quality roses, which are beautiful and fragrant. The scent is ideal for the prodction of rosewater, a major source of income for the village.

The village has a tradition for producing syrup sweets, there are over 40 different varieties, including cherry, water melon,grape, walnut and of course, rose, which rumour has it, has medicinal qualities.

The salted and smoked meat products are famous, with the chiromeri, lountza and bacon being the most popular. There are many kinds of sausages produced too.
