Information for Cyprus Expats on the Limassol Wine Festival held in Limassol every year.

The Vraga Man - Limassol Wine Festival

The Limassol Wine Festival opens this year on Thursday 08 September 2011 at 2000 in the Municipal Gardens, Limassol. The festival will be open till 18 September.

The annual festival has been in Limassol since 1961 and is supported by the four main wine producers in Cyprus, ETKO, KEO, SODAP and LOEL, as well as smaller wine producers from around the island.

Expats in Cyprus are among the 100,000 plus visitors to the festival and are able to sample the many different wines available in Cyprus. There is also a large entertainments programme, as well as many stalls offering Cypriot food and Cyprus articles.

The opening ceremony will begin with the official opening of the gates by Cyprus President Mr Dimitris Christofias, followed by an address by the Mayor of Cyprus. The Limassol Philharmonica Orchestra will perform, also a music performance by Costas Makedonas and the “Giorgalletos”
choir. There will also be an award ceremony of the Guinness world record for the biggest wine glass in the world.

There are scheduled programmes taking place in the Municipal Gardens, in front of the Vraka Man statue and by the tennis court. Child performances will be held at the Municipal Puppet Show Theatre and every evening a competition takes place at the winepress. Various Cyprus Folk Dancing will be taking place in various places in the Municipal Gardens.

EMEL, the Limassol Public Transport Company has made an arrangement with the Limassol Municipality to offer free transport to the Limassol Wine Festival.

Yermasogia – Yermasogia Parking Place

The opening times are 1900 – 2300, times for Friday/Saturday 1900 – 2330
Ticket prices are €6.00 for adults 18 years and over, Teenagers 13 – 18 yrs €5.00 Children up to 12yrs €4.00
Ticket prices include one free bottle of wine of your choice, and also includes participation in a prize draw.

Wine Glass €1.50
Wine Glass with stem – €2.50
