The Limassol Carnival - Source Limassol Municipality

The Limassol Carnival is celebrated in the streets of Limassol, and is the most popular Carnival held in Cyprus. This ten day festival began it's roots during Pagan Times and has evolved into a colourful extravaganza of colour, dancing, parades and masquerades.

The first week is called Meat Week, where you have to try and eat as much meat as possible. The second week is called Cheese Week. Following the last day of the Carnival, the fasting begins with the 50 days before Easter.

The King Carnival Parade starts the festival, followed by the children's competition for the best fancy dress costume and parade. The many floats, serenaders, masquerades and carnival parades attract large crowds.

The carnival atmosphere is also evident in the form of fancy dress balls, fancy dress parties and carnival themes in many bars, clubs and hotels in Limassol.
