Cyprus Satellite Geographical Position

The island of Cyprus has long been an important staging post for many civilizations who have conquered Cyprus during the years because of it's unique position. It is located in the area of North Africa, Middle East, Southern Europe and West Asia. The nearby countries include Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon and Israel. The exact position is 35 Degrees North and 33 Degrees East

The largest islands in the Mediterranean being the islands of Sardinia and Sicily, Cyprus is the 3rd largest being 240 km long and 140 km wide. It is dominated by the central Troodos mountain range, Mount Olympos being the highest point on the island.

Cyprus is aprox 4 1/2 hours flying time from London and it's close proximity to Lebanon 108 km, Syria 105 km, Israel 200 km and Egypt 380 km mean that Cyprus is still a strategic place for the British and American armed forces., who have bases and airfields on the island.
