The Cypriot Brandy Sour is one of the most famous alcoholic drinks associated with Cyprus. Once blended brandy was introduced in the 1930's, the basis for this famous Cyprus cocktail drink was there.  The Forest Park Hotel, in Platres, in the Troodos mountain region was the setting for the birth of the Cyprus Brandy Sour.

Legend has it that King Farouk of Egypt, who was a frequent visitor to the island, had a liking to stay at the Hotel, and was fond of acloholic drinks. The King being a Muslim, obviously in those times, could not be seen to be drinking alcohol.

The management of the hotel devised an ingenious plan. They served the King supposedly Iced Tea, but in fact, the King was enjoying his Brandy Sour.

Word soon went round about this new drink and very soon, the recipe passed from around Platres, to Nicosia, Limassol, Paphos, Larnaca and other towns. The tourists were not to be left out, and so enjoyed their Brandy Sour, along with the locals too.

The recipe for Brandy Sour is fairly easy to prepare, and tastes delicious!
