The Galata Village Museum of Folkloric Art was first established in an old renovated inn in 1990. The purpose of the museum was to gather as many articles from the historic past of Galata Village, as well as the surrounding villages, and to display them in one place.

The items collected were either donated or found lying around in fields and these included tools, clothes, furniture and other items used in the day to day life of the village. The tools on display came from a variety of local tradesmen, such as builders, carpenters, blacksmiths, butchers, shoemakers, dressmakers and many more.

The museum moved to a new location in 2013 in an old building built in 1919. The building had been renovated and was earlier used as the local village primary school.
