The Timios Stavros Church was originally built in the middle of the 12th century. The church was later destroyed, the reason remains unknown, and was reconstructed in the 14th century.

The church had a single aisle until the 15th century, with a further aisle added in the 15th century and the third aisle added in the 16th century.

The interior of the church is decorated with  ancient frescoes, with the first original fresco painted adopted the style more commonly seen in the Cappadocia region on the mainland of Greece and on the Greek island of Crete.

The Timios Stavros Church in Pelendri Village was inscribed into the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1985.
